Frontline: Bad Voodoo's War

This is a preview of the documentary, "Bad Voodoo's War," from PBS's Frontline. I think it give great insight into the daily life of the average troop in Iraq. You can access the entire documentary and many others by going to www.pbs.org. PBS online offers the majority of their programs to be streamed or downloaded. Stimulate your mind and expand your world view.

Ode to Portland: I love you so!

When trying to find a video to actually portray my hometown Portland, Oregon, USA, I was stuck between two videos. The first was a Iraq War protest from last year where young anarchist burned a life size stuffed mannequin of a US soldier while chanting "Fascist war is nothing new, its not just Bush but the soldiers too." However, I decided to go with the more light hearted video of Portland's dedication to bicycles.

My Brooklyn Home: Asterisk Art Project

When I move to New York in the summer of 2007, I was bless upon by Craigsist to discover my east coast home in Bushwick, BK. 'Asterisk' was one the initial artist lofts in the area, and still remains to pump out some of the best underground musicians and artist in New York. Including the Mindspray Crew, Langhorne Slim, Lightning Bolt, and many more. Also, my roommate Adam informs me that on their first American tour, the infamous Parisian DJs 'Justice' held the after party down at Asterisk. Although we hold showings for visual artists and photographers regularly, we were bless with a round table discussion by new millennium author author Daniel Pinchbeck. Asterisk is devoted to the grassroots artist development of New York, and continues to contribute to the community as a preformance stage, band practice space, recording studio, clothing design workshop, and visual art/graphic design production. I should return to Brooklyn shortly, when I can reunite w/ my brothers at this historical art project.

The video above is from the event, Fall Down, an all day art and music festival held in 2007. It features my roommate Broke, some house friendly animals, and many local underground artist.

Explosions in the Sky Crash Scene

This video is the crash scene from the ski flim "Long Story Short" by Level One Productions. The scene is so perfect due to the soundtrack: Explosions in the Sky's "Have You Passed Through This Night?" off their album 'Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever." Explosions in the Sky get their inspiration from the oppression of north Texas coal mines, rather fitting for a brutal crash segment. It is one of my favorite flicks to come out in the last few years, and I own all the Explosion in the Sky albums. Enjoy the painful entertainment!

Busta Rhymes & J Dilla Remix

This is the video "Oh Haa" by Busta Rhymes remixed by one of my favorite producers Jay-Dee aka J Dilla. Mad props to Busta holding it down in the mainstream, he is just so crazy in this video. Also, much love to J Dilla (R.I.P.), 'your favorite producers favorite producer,' who lost his life to Lupus in early 2006.

The Six Billion Dollar Experiment

Although my education is more centered around the humanities, I have always been a major science buff. Many years have passed since my discover of this machine, and now it's about to come online. The Large Hardon Collider (LHC) built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is the largest, most expensive machine ever built. With a circumference of 27km, It works by spinning two beams of protons, nearly at the speed of light, in opposite directions and smashing them together. The result will be a discover not yet known to scientist, recreating the environment 1/billionth of a second after the big bang. They're are looking for the fundamental elements of the universe, especially for what makes some energy contain mass. However, some are concerned w/ the possibility of creating black holes or recreating the big bang, but the scientist at CERN assure us that the possibility is highly remote.

I am going to be in France when the LHC comes online. Hopefully I can take the train over to see this monumental leap in physics!

Sammy Carlson @ Mt. Hood.

I've know Sammy Carlson since he was 10 years old back in 2000. Every weekend I come off the mountain to Mt. Hood's Cascade Ski Club located in Govt Camp, OR and there would be this lil mighty mighty set up rails outside his parents cabin. Even then his one goal was to be a pro-skier, but cant say I believed him then. All of sudden he was throwing backflips off cliffs, switchin up rails, and gaining bigger and bigger sponsorships. Then in spring/summer 03' at Mt. Hood Timberline's pro-park, Sammy was the only guy throwing 1080s off a jump known as the 'tree gap' and since then 'the sky's the limit.' Now Sammy is one of the top pros out there, taking X-Games silver, got the top sponsors, and I heard rumor that last season he made his first million. So this is my tribute to you lil man. Say "whats up?" to your sister for me.

Most Insane Video! Wingsuit Base Jumping!

This video was featured in a ski movie by Matchstick Productions titled "Seven Sunny Days." A guy created new way to sky dive a couple years back using a 'wingsuit' which allows far more maneuverability. Now they're using them to base jump. Check this video out.

MF Doom & Madlib are Madvillain

"I'm sick of that fake thug r&b rap scenario all day on the radio.
Same scenes in the video, minatamis material.
Yall dont hear me though
." -Dead Prez

Anyone who spent anytime w/ me knows that I'm a huge hip-hop buff. I don't really care for radio hyped music what so ever, especially most of that uncle tom pop rap crap thats so predominant and played out in our culture. So since I pick up this album, I've been playing it non stop. Coming from the hip hop masters, MF Doom and Madlib, Madvillany drops dope beats and lyrics cover to cover. If you havent heard this album, make sure you pick it up along w/ the artists' other projects and alter egos.

BlogTastic

So this is the beginning of my blog. Been thinking about having one for a while now. I dont want to be so vain to just talk about myself and boast about my modeling career. So I hope to post about all the things that I find dope. Including: music, culture, science, extreme sports, traveling, family/friends, and of course fashion. I hope you enjoy and post plenty of comments.
